■What is Nakano Tennis Club☆ Petit Tennis?

We are a group dedicated to creating a sense of safe and reliable community in Nakano ward through tennis. We receive positive reviews from participants such as providing a comfortable environment for young adults living alone, especially on holidays and weekends. In times of disaster or emergency, it is extremely helpful to have a neighbor to rely on. We warmly welcome foreign nationals who have come to live in Japan also.

■What kind of participants come to the club?

Our group has been active since 2005, with members ranging from adolescents to the elderly. We had been temporarily inactive because of the head organizer’s childcare leave, but have resumed our activities as of April 2014. Many participants, regardless of gender and age, have gathered to participate. Of course foreign nationals are equally welcome!

■What is the practice like?

Currently, there are no tennis clubs especially targeted toward beginners in Nakano-ward. At Petit Tennis we try to create an environment and practice material appropriate for beginners, emphasizing basic practice. We do not organize practice games. We also lend out tennis rackets for those who do not own one. 

For experienced players, it is not difficult to find a club or court to play in, but that is not true for beginners and foreign nationals. Petit Tennis continues to support the activities of people with such disadvantages. 

■What is the governing body of this club?

The club is organized by “Friend town!,” a group dedicated to creating many kinds of club activities for adults. Apart from tennis, so far, we have successfully planned events such as hiking, volunteer activities, and farm work. Starting in 2014, we have also started a “kimono dressing circle for beginners.” Please feel free to contact our organizer!
